PROJECT OBJECTIVE & BACKGROUND

Africa Grains Online is a joint e-training initiative launched by African Milling School,- Bühler AG and eProd Solutions . The program was created to support the growth and development of Sub-Saharan Africa’s milling and grain trading industries. It aims to enhance milling technology and supply chain management practices, ultimately increasing the quality of produce and reducing processing losses.

Initially, the program was developed in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, the need for remote training in milling technology and supply chain management became urgent, especially as the crisis disrupted traditional learning and in-person training. Africa Grains Online was introduced to bridge this gap, providing accessible, online training to professionals across Africa during the pandemic and beyond. The program was created in partnership with DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft) , a member of the KfW Bankengruppe , and has since expanded its reach with support from various industry leaders.

Since 2022, over 700 professionals have successfully graduated from six Anglophone cohorts and one Francophone cohort, creating a vibrant, diverse community of millers, traders, and food processors across Africa. The program has expanded its reach and effectiveness, ensuring that participants from different regions can benefit from quality, remote training.

" The course has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of critical aspects of the agricultural supply chain, and I have gained valuable insights into the importance of maintaining consistent quality standards, from proper storage to handling. This knowledge will be instrumental in ensuring that only high-quality grains are processed and delivered."
